Quickpad
IR File transfer program [ qpir13.exe ]
QPIR13.EXE is a new file transfer program for the
Quickpad IR, enabling easy upgrades, file
transfers to and from the PC, and
"one-click" backups of your data. In
order to use QPIR13 you will need to have
upgraded your Quickpad IR to software revision
2.72 (or later), which is detailed on the
previous page. Whenever you want to do an
upgrade, a file transfer or backup remember to
connect your Quickpad IR to the PC with the
serial cable you used for the upgrade. Now turn
on your Quickpad, and press CTRL-X at the main
menu. Now double-click the QPIR13 ICON to start
the program.

You should not need to configure the port, as
that was accomplished during the upgrade, and
QPIR13 will remember the setting. If however you
are installing on a different computer, or wish
to use a different serial port you may configure
that now.

To start file transfer click "Connect
Port" and in a moment you should see the
Quickpad IR folder listing appear in the right
hand folder window. If not, check your cable and
comm port setting. Once the folder listing
appears you may transfer files. To transfer a
file from the Quickpad IR to the PC click on the
source folder, for example, F1. You'll see a
listing of the files in that folder.

To transfer "Welcome to Quickpad!" to
the PC, first choose your destination folder by
scrolling though the folder listing in the top
left window. Now highlight (click once) the file
to transfer, then click "Copy to PC".
That's all there is to it! You'll see a file
transfer window pop up showing the transfer
taking place. Small files transfer very quickly!
You may select multiple files in a folder to
transfer by holding down the CTRL key while
making your selections. Transferring files from
the PC to the Quickpad are just the same. Simply
start by selecting the source folder and file(s)
from the left side, then choose a destination
folder in the Quickpad IR, then click "Copy
to Quickpad".
Note: The Quickpad IR cannot
process files bigger than 32K, and the file
transfer program won't let you transfer them!
Also, the Quickpad IR can only work with pure
text files. If you have a document that is in
other than "text" format most programs,
such as Microsoft Word, choose the type of format
that you save the file in. You will lose
formatting information of course, but you will be
able to view the text of the document. Also, when
transferring files from the Quickpad to the PC a
".txt" extension is added. When a file
is sent to the Quickpad, any ".txt"
extension will be removed.
Note: If you are using the Quickpad IR in
"Professional Mode" (folder F9 becomes
a telephone rolodex), they will not transfer
correctly as they contain special formatting
characters. This will be fixed in a future
revision. Backups and restores however work
correctly with telephone files.
Quickpad
IR Backups (and Restores)
Backing up important data you have on your
Quickpad IR can be accomplished in just a few
steps. Assuming you are already connected, just
press "Backup" and you'll be prompted
with the following screen:

You may alter it to backup1, or backup 03-04-2002
for example. If you have multiple Quickpad IRs,
you might label the folders as /quickpad1,
/quickpad2, etc.
When doing a backup, any files of the same name
already in the backup folder will be overwritten.
To restore files to the
Quickpad, first (very important!) choose
the source folder from the top left window of
QPIR13, and then press "Restore". Any
files of the same name in a given Quickpad IR
folder will be overwritten. You can use the
restore function to copy files
"en-masse" to another Quickpad for
example, or simply restore the Quickpad to a
previous state. If there are files on the
Quickpad not in the backup folder they will
remain. If you wish to clear out all files and
start with a clean slate for example, use the
Initialize function found in the Utilities menu
of the Quickpad IR, then do the restore
operation. Note that during backups and restores
there are no ".txt" extensions added or
removed.
