Installing the thesaurus library

Note: you must have already upgraded your QuickpadIR to the latest version (3.06) and your unit must be thesaurus capable (extended memory installed).

After upgrading to version 3.06 power up the unit and check the version number.

Version 3.06-E-K2t 03/08/2006 (H4)

If you see a small letter t you can proceed with the install (step 4-8). If you see a capital T then you already have the thesaurus installed, nothing further is required. If you see a space instead then no extended memory is available and you won't be able to upgrade the unit yourself. If you see an H4 your unit can be factory upgraded however.

STEP 4
Download qpthes.zip and save it to your desktop. Since it is a "zip" file you will need to "unzip" it (decompress it). Most PCs already have a winzip installed so all you will need to do it double-click the qpthes.zip icon. Otherwise, download WinZip for free, if you need it. See the WinZip instructions if you need help.

When you double-click the qpthes.zip icon on the desktop winzip will start and you'll see something similiar to this:

You should see 24 files listed as above. Now click the extract button to get the file save screen:

Create a new folder (c:\thes) as shown and press the extract button. The 24 files will be extracted and saved in the folder you created.

STEP 6
On your PC double click the QPIR13 icon to start the file transfer program. Be sure your Quickpad is connected to a serial port of your computer, just as it was when you upgraded to the latest version. With the Quickpad turned on and at the main menu press CTRL-X, which starts the Quickpad "talking" to the PC. On the PC, press the "Connect Port" button. Momentarily you should see the Quickpad folders F1-F10 appear on the QPIR13 screen as shown:

You must first click on folder F01 to highlight a destination. Then, using the box labeled "Local PC Directories" find and highlight the "thes" folder you created earlier. You should see all 24 files you previously extracted with winzip.

STEP 7
On the PC, in the "PC Files in Current Directory" box, highlight (click once) the QP1.S00 file. Scroll down to the last file in the list (use the arrows or slider), and while holding the shift key down highlight the QP1.T04 file. All 24 files should now be highlighted as shown below. If they are not you must repeat the procedure.

STEP 8
Final step!! Click on "Copy to Quickpad". You'll see some messages on the Quickpad screen, and after a moment you'll see file transfer screens on the PC. When the file transfer activity on the PC stops you are finished. This will take approximately 5 1/2 minutes, please be patient. When all tranfers have stopped click the "Done" button. Your Quickpad IR now has an upgraded spellchecker and new thesaurus capability!!
